Giving thanks this month to National Geographic for featuring our flowers & designs in their “Search for Happiness” November issue. We’ve been waiting {and digging a few thousand dahlias} to get our hands on our own copy. It still doesn’t seem real, we never thought that this would ever see print ~ or should I say I didn’t believe it – lucky for me others did and do believe on a daily basis.

Lou Gagnon built a career on making the impossible possible … dreaming it, designing it, building it and sharing it with the world … he has a comfort level with uncertainty that far exceeded my own when we first started our business in 2002. Over the years it’s rubbed off, so when National Geographic photographer, Rebecca Hale, called to schedule our shoot… that she wasn’t sure yet what we’d actually photograph … that we didn’t yet have a story written … and ultimately we had complete design freedom … Lou was like “cool, we’re in BLUE SKY” – Disney’s term for the dreaming part of any project where anything & everything IS possible. So we flowered, designed on-the-fly and shot for seven hours straight IN “blue sky” UNDER a beautiful blue sky where everything indeed did seem possible. A special thanks to all my market customers or in this case my design “coaches”, I might not have survived this marathon of emotionally charged effort without the experience of making thousands of custom made bouquets over the years under their watchful, patient and sometimes not-too-patient eyes. No pressure… just National Geographic over your shoulder reminding you that they don’t re-touch photos.

Such an incredible experience, so amazed to be able to finally share it – thank you so much Debra Prinzing {SlowFlowers} & Kasey Cronquist {American Grown Flowers} for your leadership, for making the connections, setting the table, and supporting America’s #flowerfarmers of any scale! Thank you Becky Hale for a once in a lifetime experience and for your patience with all my questions, for author & LynnVale Field-to-Vase guest, Lindsay Roberts, and finally thank you to my husband and partner, Lou, who always points out the blue sky when I see gray.

More HERE from American Grown Flowers on how this incredible opportunity came about.
